About the Workshop

NSF Open AI Cellular (OAIC) and EdgeRIC Workshop 2024 will be held on August 6 – 8, 2024 in Room 2080 of the Rula Building at Mississippi State University, Mississippi State, MS.

The focus of this NSF workshop is to train students, researchers, and practitioners who are interested in using the NSF Open Artificial Intelligence Cellular (OAIC) platform in their research. OAIC provides a fully open-source software platform (including, software library, code, and documentation) for prototyping and testing AI-driven RAN controllers enabling 6G cellular research. It consists of two components – (1) OAIC controller (OAIC-C) framework – an integrated, open-source (both simulation and hardware) 3GPP-compliant cellular platform to design, develop, and prototype novel AI-driven (or model-based) RAN control functions. The platform utilizes O-RAN architecture (to host such RAN controllers as xApps) and interfaces with open-source 5G cellular software (srsRAN, OAI) using SDR hardware and ZeroMQ (simulated), and (2) OAIC testing (OAIC-T) framework – an open-source software platform that supports automated, multitasking and distributed testing of OAIC-C and its RAN controllers.

All participants need to register using the registration Link.

Please upload your slides for your 5-minute research presentations here.

Travel grants: We offer a limited number of travel support to attendees with preference given to graduate students and postdocs. The selected participants will be compensated for travel-related expenses. Anyone who is interested in being considered for a travel grant is required to register and submit supporting documents by June 15. The deadline has passed for travel grant applications. Please reach out to the organizers if you have any questions.

Parking: Please reach out to Lashaunda (lbobbett@ece.msstate.edu, Ph: 662-325-3912) if you need a parking permit.

Participants leave for airport

Nearest airport: Golden Triangle Regional Airport

Free shuttle bus service from the airport to Starkville is available with a stop at The Mill. For more information, please visit: GTR Express.

Computer specifications:

Please review the computing requirements and, if possible, bring a computer to the workshop that, ideally, meets these specifications (no need for a 10 Gbps NIC):

Alternatively, you can use any computer that you bring to the workshop to access Cloud computing resources and to do the installation and experimentation on the Cloud. We provide instructions for Google Cloud, but feel free to use your favorite Cloud computing service provider:  https://docs.google.com/document/d/17ePilnXM1OqhpYhDdSq4vBkI2-m2IpDoporhSaSnPx0/edit

If you have any other questions, please reach out to Dr. Vuk Marojevic (vuk.marojevic@ece.msstate.edu) or Lasuaunda Bobbet (lbobbett@ece.msstate.edu, Ph: 662-325-3914).

Agenda: During the 2.5-day workshop, the participants will be involved in hands-on training sessions and tutorials that will expose the attendees to the OAIC platform and its capabilities. The attendees will carry out various sample experiments to program both the OAIC controller (OAIC-C) and OAIC testing (OAIC-T) framework. Attendees will receive an overview of OAIC and engage in hands-on sessions. They will learn about OAIC with srsRAN and OSC RIC, explore many xApps, delve into AI-driven xApp design, development, and deployment, learn about EdgeRIC, its integration, and use cases, and gain insights into OAIC with OAI and FlexRIC.
